Happy 21st AnĂsima!

Yesterday was Ann's 21st birthday, so we celebrated with her all evening. Our original plan was to design a scavenger hunt that would take her to a few cool places around the city, which, when combined with our desire to have a costume party, came to mean also dressing up as ninjas that would show up one by one as she reached each destination. Yes yes, it would have been splendid. Either really funny, or such a ridiculous failure that it would have to be funny anyway. But- Ann's host parents planned a dinner for her at 7, and she had to be at school till 5, so there just wasn't time. I think our backup plan was good too though.
First we all went to the university to pick her up, and to give her a flower and a gift certificate for an hour-long massage. She loves to be touched, and on several occasions throughout the semester has pronounced her need to be spooned, so she thought it was great. We dropped her off at the spa, and then accompanied her to her house later for dinner. Before we ate, we presented her with her other gifts: 10 packets of McDonald's BBQ sauce (her favorite, though she's way too health-conscious to eat anything else from the McD's menu), men's boxer-briefs (she's also very comfort-conscious; apparently men's boxer-briefs are ultra-comfy), and Raq gave her her brown leather belt with a kind of southwestern design on it that Ann has been completely obsessed with since she saw Raq wear it in Galapagos. Liz had also made her a great card that had a picture of each of us with a goofy caption. She was thrilled, yay:). Dinner was great, and then it was off to Chilean Central/International House/The Unicorns(that's the name of the building), as we alternately call the guys' apartment. We watched part of a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert on DVD, toasted Ann's birthday with good Chilean wine, and then all went out to Zahsa. Raq, Kathleen, Liz and I had gone to Zahsa the night before and had fun, plus they play a lot of hiphop which Ann loves to dance to. Fellow BCAr Ruby met us there too and good times were had by all.
The end.
